pretty much the same as me then so you should have no probs with win7. also, most people that "acquire" an os often go for ULTIMATE!!! its just not necessary and way over bulked, you can get home premium without missing anything and its like half the size

I have a P4 3.2; 2GB RAM and an old 7600 GT and Windows 7 runs smooth as hell. Even my internet connection got faster after I installed it. I have the Ultimate version and I got +10 FPS in every game compared to XP. Also if you keep it up to date then you shouldn't have any problems at all. My point is that Win 7 runs great on almost any rig as long as you have a decent amount of ram.

I have no idea about the error with the dual boot. But for the clean install : 1) Did you wait long enough ? I've heard people saying their computer was frozen, but actually they just had to wait. 2) Did you try copying the ISO on another CD ?
I everything fails, I would go back to where you bought it and ask for another copy. It just might be an ISO with corrupted files.
