So my friend just bought a rig that has the 6 core (I think it's AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.80/3.30 GHz). After he installed Win 7 he ran dxdiag and noticed that the CPU section says he has a unknown AMD processor with 6 cores ~800 MHz. Is that normal? I mean the whole thing says 2.8/3.3.

Could be due to BIOS. I've had the same problem with my Phenom II X4 945 and an AMD 790GX chipset board. Updating the BIOS version solved it.

To be sure that it's not an OS-related problem you should look at the diagnostics output that is displayed immediately after you turn on the system. If the CPU freq is displayed correctly the problem lies with Windows. Otherwise you'll probably need to either tweak some BIOS settings (unlikely if the CPU is stated as unknown) or update BIOS.

Confirm it with CPU-Z rather than using crappy DXDIAG

This. Update the motherboard Bios, had the problem when i was building a machine for a friend, only 2 or 3 motherboards support the AMD 6 cores straight out of the box.



This won't prove anything because if Dxdiag can't see it windows wont utilise it (stupid microsoft ¬.¬).

I just wanted to confirm a few things from CPUZ before giving any advice. I wouldnt want to recommend a bios update for a processor that may or may not be known for a motherboard that has not been identified.

It's an ASUS AM3 mother board... MV something or MX something I think there's a 7 around there.
Whatever tomorrow I'll do some CPUZ pictures and then a bios update.

EDIT Updated the BIOS, everything works fine!
