Hi guys... As a couple may have noticed I popped up on new years and promptly disappeared again.. this is due to my (single) LAN port decided to conk out after a BIOS flash and general overhaul... Had similar problems before.. at first the router wasnt even lighting up Ethernet so tested on an old 100mbps NIC and fine Since ive been using the card the main LAN light's decided to pop on and flash on the main port again (both router and at socket) but still no connection.... Any ideas? I had a similar problem before when I did something like plug in an old crossover cable or something... If not... considering my max download being about 230kbps will a 100mbit card make any difference? Or is gigabit a faster connection anyway (i assumed that speed would only be reached by LAN or an extremely rich guy?) |

Are you shure that they are both in the same IP adress range? Like is your IP static? Usually if youve got like 192.168.0.5 on your ethernet and the router is at 192.168.2.1 they cant find each other even though they seem to be connected. At least thats what I always check first! If they are dynamic try setting it to static ... first things first I would say |

People always ask me stuff like this and im ashamed to say I know v.little about ports. router settings etc... I keep meaning to buff up in this area. I know Ive had to enter my IP (whatever it is Im sure your right... I'm just a little fed up with fiddling atm and wondered if the 100mbps card would do for now, or majorly slow me down? |

Then lets begin with the simple stuff...can you reach your router via browser window like if you wanted to configure it? How to do so is usually explained in the manual! |

(Also the place to begin would be by looking at what 'ipconfig' reports.) |
