Tbh I think the best way to improve your aim is a nice big mousemat. Don't skimp on the surface, I think it does more than the mouse itself. Also buy replacement mouse feet. The ones on my Razer wore out pretty quick. Not much screws your aim as much as your mouse suddenly having twice the friction your used to.

And I'd like to know if any professional FPS gamers actually play with all 4000+DPI...

800dpi, ingame is like, 4.something. Figure thats about the same. If I use higher DPI I can't get good enough fine tuning in other games...

Quick Q, my mouse is 4000DPI max. I presume the camera is always capturing at maximum resolution and the DPI setting then scales it back, or does changing the setting actually decrease the fidelity of the sensor? Basically what I'm asking is whether the mouse is more accurate@3200 DPI with sensitity@.25, or @800DPI with sense@1? Make sense? :Z

I got used to playing with 5600dpi. Just had to turn down the sensitivity in games / windows. That way you still get the accuracy from the improved dpi but the cursor doesnt jump all over the screen.

Whether or not this gives me an advantage is debatable (I think it does to some extent). There are people playing on 2000dpi or less that will still kick my butt

The former should be more accurate, as it reads more dots per inch.

The main reason for a high DPI is to stop pixel skipping. Back in the old days of 400dpi mice it was possible to have the mouse skip 2 or 3 pixels on a high resolution (I'm talking 1024x768 back then!).

The higher the monitor resolution and required sensitivity the worse the problem gets. 5600dpi is definitely overkill for most setups. Somewhere on the internet is a calculator that takes your screen res and your required turning circle and lists a required DPI figure.

If you have too higher dpi it can also cause the mouse to jitter if the surface you use is textured. My current setup is really bad for this - G500 with func pad 1030.

I find 1600dpi a balanced figure between accuracy ingame and movement speed on the desktop. That way I do not have to keep fiddling with on the fly sensitivity constantly.

Does anyone know if there's a way to check your mouse's DPI with a program or site or something? Mine doesn't say on it and it's been a long time since I got it...

1) Google the brand and model of your mouse and read the specs.

2) Get a ruler and measure the distance your mouse travels to move the pointer from one side of your screen to the other. Divide the width of your screen resolution by the distance travelled. i.e. 1920 / n inches = DPI
