Right. I've recently updated my monitor, mouse and keyboard in order to smooth things out a bit. I bought the http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-GD245HQ-monitor-DVI-D-1920x1080/dp/B00322VJC6 without that fancy orange stand, though. I'm very pleased with the monitor, but when I'm playing TF2 i still have a steady fps around 70-80 that drops down to around 30-40 quite often.

And yes, I do also have a GFX card. I'm using a ATI Radeon HD 5670. Other mentionable hardware is AMD Dualcore around 3gHz, 3 gigs of RAM and a shitload of harddrive.

I'm running TF2 at recommended settings along with Widescreen 16:9, 1920x1080.

My GFX card is capable of DirectX 11, but apparently TF2 only benefits from DirectX 9.

So my question is this: Could there be any settings or something similar I need to change in order to get it to work more smoothly, I believe that with the specs of my desktop, i should be able to play at least TF2, flawlessly.

Thanks in advance :)

Believe me, you have to do a lot of fiddling around with the configs to get a decent stable framerate even with good specs. 2 cents

Simple question I know but have you tried it at a lower res and does it still lag?

The difference in frame-rate for me @ 1400x900 compared to 1200x800 (w/e) is immense, i have to play on 1076x875 (w/e) using the 4:3 button on my monitor for an actual lag free game. you might have to upgrade or reduce res tbh.

In general I have found relatively very little performance differences between low graphic setting and high, excluding AA and shadows ofc.

if you just want a more stable fps then surely v-sync will do that? cant say ive tried to use it in tf2.

Have you set -refresh 120 in your TF2 launch options with that new monitor.

What exact CPU is that?
TF2 is insanely CPU limited. I fear that is why your framerate is being held back.

Make sure vsync is disabled and multicore enabled and lower as many graphical settings as possible in order to see if your gfx is limiting your cpu (I doubt it)

Windows 7 x64
6GB DDR3
Intel i7-920@2.67Ghz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260

so a fairly decent machine I guess .. but without my own config TF2 runs like crap.

OH and btw I can play Crysis 2 with graphics on Hardcore and got no problems :?
DURR..makes no sense.
