went out for an hour last night, left the pc running. came back to a bios screen saying boot mgr missing. the bios doesnt see my ssd either. i tried this fix, http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows- ... ows-vista/ to no avail. it tries to run the dvd then comes up with the same message. anyone have any idea? normally my next step would be to format a drive (as they are all full) and reinstall windows, then run diagnostics on the borked ssd. my problem is that i have 3 identical HDD's and there is only one i can format, with no other pc except the lappy, i cant tell which one is the one i can format. so, any ideas? |

Something similar (I think) happened to me. Turned out I'd turned off booting from the HDD in bios (like a noob) and couldn't turn it back on until I just reset everything to default settings. Worth a try? Could be something borked your BIOS whilst you were out and it needs a kick.. Other than that - take the HDDs round to someone elses house and use their PC to see which one you can format.. |

It kinda reminds me of my PC, I sometimes get "No bootable HD found" (or something similar saying it cant windumb) .. then I have to go check BIOS if it switched the booting order! again taking my 2nd HD as my 1st one. Strange I dont know why it does this, it just happens sometimes (like once every 2 months). Do a reset first as mentioned, then get someone to attach the HD to their computer and check which one is the right one (and dont forget to mark it for the future!). There are some cabels for which you can easily connect to a HD and then via USB to any computer and they dont cost much. |

ok, just downloaded the latest bios from the Gigabyte site. Got it to boot off the Win7 cd, Woo! Went to the command prompt, entered "bootrec /fixboot" which was suggested in the fix. what can go wrong? well a lot it seems. wtf happened when i was out for that 1 hr? i have used the windows cd many times before so i know its not that, i dl'd the bios update from the gigi website do it shouldn't be that. everything had been running fine up to getting back last night. |

That is seriously weird dude. Nobody else could have messed around with it? I'm at a complete loss as to why a HD would choose to randomly encrypt itself. Virus? Trojan? |
