So I am coming up against a problem on my lappy.

Javascript isn't functioning properly.

The main way this manifests is that java applets/buttons/etc won't open.

Say I go to Good Old Games website - I can't open the account login page as it is a pop up java window.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Java (I only have the most recent update on the machine, #26), tried different browsers (Chrome, Firefox), made sure Noscript is off, turned on all the Java options and pop up options ever in both browsers.

I even tried hitting it with a stick, but that didn't work either.

It's quite annoying.

Anyone got any suggestions? Please? Help?

Firstly, you should know that Java and Javascript are completely unrelated. There is absolutely no connection between them at all. They are 2 different and separate programming languages.

I'm going to assume you are talking about Javascript.

Start by making sure that Javascript is enabled in your browser and then go to http://www.isjavascriptenabled.com/

Still no? then disable any pop-up blocker you have and then drop in on http://www.isjavascriptenabled.com/

Still no? then disable any ad-blocker you have and then visit http://www.isjavascriptenabled.com/

Still no? then visit http://www.verybigstick.com/ and order a UltimaxStick SE.

See, this is why it's such an annoying problem.

Javascript is enabled. The big YES was kind of a give away there.

I have no pop-up blockers enabled. I have no ad-blockers enabled.

But, why then won't Javascript related popups work?

Something on your PC is blocking them. Perhaps a virus checker on your PC is filtering web traffic? A quick and simple approach would be to shut down everything except for your web browser and see what happens then.
