ok so i recently got my hands on a 3d tv but god knows how the fuck i get to watch a 3d movie on it. http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/tv-v ... prd_detail do i need a specific 3d player and hook it up to the lappy? do i need a specific type of 3d movie format? do i need to burn a dvd/blueray disk and let the player work it all out? iv googled for quite a while but there seems to be so many variables that i could do with a helping hand form someone that knows about this shit. oh and the only 3d classes i have are the polarized ones i got from the cinema. |

You will need a 3d blu-ray player / ps3 and a pair of samsung active shutter glasses like these: http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/ssg-3100gb ... 3-pdt.html |

If you hook it up to your laptop you could possibly play the content through powerdvd 3d |

cheers bud, i having more and more problems with this fucker, the specs state that it has wi-fi built in but there are no options or settings to connect it, only wired connection. it may need to be linked up via the wired connection in order to update the firmware, no idea at the moment. ill be pissed if i have to move the modem and router downstairs and go back to wired for the pc. it wont connect to the internet through the lappy either. i had a scout around for different active shutter glasses and the cheapest i could find were only £10 less so i may just go for the samsung ones. as far as blue-ray player goes, i may just get a ps3. blue-ray on its own costs around the £150 mark and i can pick up a ps3 for that money and it does a hell of a lot more. then i wouldn't need to worry about the wi-fi for the tv or moving routers and modems about. i think i can whack movies from the pc onto it as well, not too sure about all the ins and outs of the ps3 as i have never owned one. food for thought tho |

One problem with the (or mine in particular) PS3 is that it has fans that can get quite loud when watching movies, and it's very distracting especially during quieter scenes. I have an older fatty so it might be better with the Slim, though I've seen quite a few posts saying there was or wasn't much improvement. Just something to watch out for. Other than that it's a great machine for watching movies and has some great exclusive games. You can stream movies from your PC by setting it up as a media server, though with wifi it may struggle at anything HD: http://www.ps3mediaserver.org/ Wifi performance on my PS3 is about 30% the speed of my other devices which makes streaming and downloads frustrating, again I don't know if that would be a problem with all models but I know others have the same issues. Plugging in a USB stick to watch an HD movie can be tricky too as it only supports FAT32 devices, so there's a 4GB file size limit. .Mkv files are not supported but you can convert them with a utility called mkv2vob. Make sure you have a mini-USB (not micro) cable lying around as well, I didn't get one with my PS3 even though it's needed to charge the controllers. If you want to use it on the PC as a 360 controller you can use something like Motioninjoy, it supports USB and Bluetooth input and works really well. |

yeh, i tried streaming a 1080p movie through the lappy's wi-fi, failed dismally. so i think the way forward would be to transfer the file wirelessly first then play. im concerned about what file types the ps3 can play and also if it could play files in 3d or 3d file types. im not bothered about console gaming or anything to do with that, im just thinking purely as a media machine |

I think a 1080p 3D movie would go over the 4GB file size limit in almost all cases, I've even had trouble with 720p 2D movies going over in the past. It's a shame Sony don't release updates with useful features like decent filesystem support as the system has a lot of potential. Not sure about 3D file support but it does avi and vob, mkv can quickly be converted to vob as well. I've seen some Sony Blu-Ray players that have USB file support and a very similar interface to the PS3, might be worth investigating as they may have more flexibility with playing external files. |

According to the samsung link you gave, this is the following info on wifi WiFi Adaptor Support included So therefore its probably an add-on part. Would be better off using the built in homeplugs or possibly a wireless bridge if you really want wireless connectivity. |

Most glasses are proprietary. You would need Samsung 3D glasses as any old pair will not just simply work with your TV. |

i downloaded the latest shrek film in 3d to test it out and thats 36gb so yeh.. a little over 4gb. i meant transfer the files to the ps3 hdd then play them with that onto the tv, it seems the lan port is for little more than net access for the smart tv functions, so no wired streaming from that it seems. i think i will be going for the ps3 as a media hub option and it seems the easiest thing to do to play 3d movies is to burn them to blueray then play through the ps3. unless i find out that the ps3 cant play them then im rly boned, but i dont think that will be the case.
http://www.maplin.co.uk/universal-3d-ac ... 9&t=module these are the only ones cheaper than the samsung own branded ones, and not by much. but t seems that there are universal ones available. but as you say, i would be dubious to buy something at that price (it would have to be 2 pairs, buying one would be quite depressing) and not knowing if it was 100% reliable and compatible. thanks for the input guys, much appreciated as always |
