Because I want 120fps and the current LCDs that are capable of that are waaaaaay out of my price range. Unfortunately I'm having a really hard time find any. I know they aren't really made anymore, but even finding decent 2nd hand ones in a freaking nightmare. Anybody know any places I can look for one? Also I understand that CRT fps is basically horizontal scan rate/resolution, but a few of the CRTs I've come across seem to automatically set their scan rate based on the resolution. Is this the case with most CRTs or can you just force the monitor to use maximum scan rate with 800x600 rez? So yah, I'm pretty clueless. Any ideas? |

You are mostly limited to ebay, there was one company I bought from off ebay that used to do refurbed CRT's. Problem is that the only good ones stopped being produced around april 2004. (Trinitron based tube tech) All multiscan CRT monitors can do a wide range of resolutions and refreshes. The big factor is the Horizontal scanning frequency (rated in Khz), for 1024x768 @ 120hz you will need approx 100khz. Trouble is this is on the high end of the monitors capabilities so it will reduce the crispness of the display. My 21" IBM P275 had a 130khz horizontal scan and I used to run 1024x768 in games. At first I used to use 150hz, when the clarity went I backed down to 120hz. I am about to skip mine as it was replaced by a Viewsonic VX2268wm. If you can pick it up you can have it |

I don't have a car, so if you don't live within my pretty immediate area of SW London I won't be able to pick it up unfortunately. Thanks for the offer though. I'll just try and keep an eye on ebay. I think a slightly larger model of yours is going for 180quid... Anyway, thanks for info. |

Not really any market around here, unless I wanted to actually post the thing. Which is a complete no-no. I only paid £50 delivered or something for mine. So it has been more than worth its money Your best bet is to make a custom search on ebay for a radius that you can pick up from. Shouldn't be too long before someone is selling off some old ones in an office clearance near to your home. |
