Ok, i just bought the nipper one of these kids tablets, heard lots of great reviews and it looks awesome. got it home, started playing with it and it does indeed look like great fun. then i check out the app store... for a shitty game with 5 levels of flinging a monkey in a tree you are looking at £7.50, for a Thomas the Tank Engine Ebook... wait for it... not just that all the apps are twice the price of most things on the android and apple app store, there is a prompt every time you open it, asking to connect to your parents pc and get more shit from the store. the pet thing is just like a facebook game. feed it better things that come with expensive games and it will do mundane trick or whatever. fuck that on a bike. so my question to anyone is, how do i hack this extortionate piece of marketing evil!! |

My guess is that the reason the apps/books are so expensive is that there's a very limited market for these things. If you can sell a million you can set a low price, if you're limited to LeapPads you need to increase the price to have any hope of making a profit with development costs being the same. The marketing/Farmville/micro DLC stuff does sound awful though, I'd send it back and write an email complaining about your experience. I looked around for a jailbreak but with it not having the market share or specs of other tablets I don't think anyone's bothered or will bother to make one. The only alternative with a wide selection of apps/games/books for children is the iPad, but even a used iPad 1 is £300 on ebay which is probably more than buying everything from the leappad store. |

i will never own any apple procuct, as far as other tablets go, thats crazy. im not giving my 3yr old anything like that. it will break withing the hour. also theres the bit where she is 3... as far as there being no incentive to jailbreak, i think it because its still fairly new. the leapster (previous incarnation) was hacked to run gba games, movies and other shit. the main reason i want it opened up, is so i can remove these malicious adds and prompts to buy more shit. then theres the fact they charge AA prices for 10mb games that should be free. oh and its an extremely popular gadget btw, was sold out in the us within the week of release. doesnt seem to be the same rush here in the uk tho. |
