Microsoft have released the final public versions of it's Windows Vista service packs. These can be installed via Windows update but the standalone installers are recommended instead as although it's larger, it automatically installs the correct pre-requisite updates and should result in less issues
Took about 30 mins to install. I've only slightly noticed an increase in performance in TF2, so I bumped textures back up to high and still get a decent fps.
Might just be a placebo effect though, not got any numbers.

Re: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Released!
Now apart from adding more junk to my PC and slowing it down a tad I havent noticed any benefits of instaling Vista Service pack 1. However my modem has been playing up since the update to Service pack 1. What happens is when I 'connect my pc to the modem' it will only connect 'locally' and not to the internet/web. However when I reset the settings of the modem (which requires a few clicks, a reboot and a few minutes.), I can then connect as normal. In the months before the update this occured a couple of times only, but since the update its already happened half a dozen times. My question is, has anyone else run into this problem? (maybe XP users can help also) and do you know what is causing this?
This brought nothing but trouble on my system. Some of you know that I often run into trouble with my microphone when talking in game. Well, this just exacerbated things.
Instead of there being intermittent problems, microphone input was borked completely. Not only that, but sound output was also messed up: all I could hear was very loud, noisy static/distortion. In the end, I had to uninstall SP1 and, to my surprise, things started working normally again. Well, I say normally, but my microphone still insists on making me sounds like a dalek when talking in game.
Oh well, I guess these are just some of the problems from the massive list I signed up to when I decided to install 64-bit Vista.
