Simply put, I'm moving house. Due to the Landlord messing me around a bit, it finally turns out the property had it's phoneline disconnected by the previous tennants as part of them leaving. Not physically cut or anything, just turned off. I've ordered new internet for the property through BT (regardless of folk's opinions on BT, just after advice regarding something) and I'm now stuck wondering how long I may be without internet. Fresh order, new line, no MAC-Address to copy across as I'm not bringing our net with us (as people will still be living in the house we're leaving). Estimated date: November 6th. Over a MONTH away. Am I seriously going to have to wait this long for even a telephone line and basic ADSL to be ready to go? Or will the basics be up and running before the engineer comes to install the Fibre-Optic stuff? (ie, could I plug in a router I have, slap the username/password in, and get online once the line is active). Any prevous experience with this sort of thing is appreciated just to try and soothe my stressed out brain (moving isn't fun it turns out). Being told that it'll be possible to connect with basic gear sooner would be lovely. Being trolled really won't be appreciated Cheers in advance folks. A very mentally stressed out DarkVVulf |

Sounds about right tbh, whilst its normally only a matter of them going to the exchange and making sure you really are plugged in, they don't plan them quickly and it's bloody slow. Just be glad they didn't charge you the £120 fee for a new phone line that they normally do - and that's when you have the line already there just dc'd! And no, the router wont work unless line turned on |

If I was you I would give Virgin a call. They can usually get you up and running within 10 days. http://store.virginmedia.com/broadband.html

The one-off activation charge is more than I can afford sadly at £88, and cable isn't available in the area of the property so would be old school ADSL. They would, however, be able to activate sooner as you suggested frog, though I was quoted 14working days. I've taken a leaf out of KB's book following a Steamchat with him about firing off a complaint to BT. I've got grounds to complain as my first order dropped out of the system with no indication that it hadn't gone through by BT. Usual wait for comeback now. *sigh* Thankyou for the advice though. Appreciated. |
