Exactly as it says on the in, my desktop pc has started to freeze shortly after loading the desktop, typically when i first boot up it'll get to the desktop and freeze when loading the final bits even if left idle, i do get mouse movement and icons on the desktop / task bar will highlight when i hover over them but the second i click anything it'll just lock up, i still get mouse movement but there is no way of waking this thing up.

Typically a reset will get me a working computer but i can't keep doing that.

I've removed everything i can from the start up programs, and my primary HD is not even 1/5 full. I've run spy-bot, avg and malaware and also used housecall and they have all turned up nothing.

I'm inclined to think it may be a hardware issue but after i reset from the freeze my pc is absolutely fine.

Been doing my head in this past couple of weeks but iv'e finally got a weekend to myself to try and sort it out.

Have you checked the HD, sure one of mine was doing that before it packed in, only other thing is cooling but then you say it's all right after 2nd boot.

I've manged to get it working every time now by turning the comp on and physically leaving the room for a couple of mins but the problems still there. I ran out of time to sort it out in the end but I'm beginning to think it might be a RAM issue. I'll check my PSU first though.

Running in safe-mode (F8) can pretty well exclude software problems.

Also you can try checking your RAM with http://www.memtest.org

Is there anything in the event log Freddie? Any failed startups or other errors?

Have you tried disconnecting all the peripherals (speakers, printers, trackballs etc) and restarting it with just the bare bones connected?

According to my event log i get the same recurring issues but none of them are serious.

something about my Printer unable to be used on a network, which iv'e switched off anyway.

WMI event ID10 - which i just sorted out now.

Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D. Not sure if there is a fix for this or not but it's a common MS problem that's not serious from what i know.

and something about a windows profile being unloaded Event ID 1530- again from what i gather it's a non issue but given my problem i wont rule that out.

I do have a few Kernal 41's spread out over the past few days but they are all caused by me when iv'e reset.

Gonna try my mouse / keyboard ect ect.

memtest turned up nothing.
