Post System Upgrade
I'm doing a big upgrade to my 3 year old PC and want to get your thoughts and suggestions on what i've picked out.
Graphics Cards here
Motherboard here
PSU here
& RAM here

Bear in mind i will be using my old Pentium 4 for now. Not enough cash to get a new processor. :(

That mainboard doesn't support sli so 2 nvidia cards is not so great for that card. select another motherboard or a single better card.
The 8800GT or 9600 should be within the same price range.

Good luck on the upgrade.

I'm pretty sure a single 8800gt will wipe the floor with a 8600gt sli setup. here's a link i quickly found. Tom's hardware is one of the best places to search around anyway so do a bit of research.

SLI does not mean twice the performance, or even close for that matter. A game like crysis will destroy thiose 8600gt's whereas a 8800gt will happily run smoothly and maxed on lower resolutions. What's the native on your monitor?

Yes I would go single to mate. Single 8800gt would be better.

I have a 8800gts 512 which plays all games great.

Firstly, bumbandit, i have a CRT monitor so i don't really have a native res.

Is it worth it go for the 512 version of the 8800gt. Is there a huge difference between 256(here) and 512(here) versions?
Thanks for the help lads :)

Not much differnce to note until you get into the higher resolutions or start using FSAA and AF.
I'm assuming you could use 1600*1200 on your crt in which case i'd go for the 512 (I already did, mine is the exact same MSI oc version in your link and it runs like a dream)

Here's a fairly good review http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/xfx ... efault.asp

Here's the link i forgot to paste from my original post
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/247 ... 0gt-8800gt

It might be worth considering the Radeon 3850 if price is still going to be an issue. it's in the review obove and doesn't do badly.

This is a handy comparison tool for graphics cards http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html

Those prices were in Euros Gimpster. I think the 512 version was coming in at £145 from their UK site.
