For some reason Youtube loads very slowly, but it should be a guide for how to root it. After that you can put a ROM on it. One example is Cyanogenmod found here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/index.php?title=Tf101_Info
As far as I am aware there are no ROMs currently running 4.2. But Cyanogen are close to completing it and you can update it directly from your tablet then.
Just a heads up. Rooting voids your warranty (but is quite safe) and installing a custom ROM will wipe everything on the internal storage (not SD card).

Getting an Android tab for Christmas, how easy is it to put Lollipop on? as it comes with KitKat, really don't want to brick it due to a 2 year warranty and it cost a bit.

Re: Android Tablets
What tablet is it?
They're very difficult to brick. The only issues arise when the manufacturer hasn't released a version of Lollipop, which means you have amateurs scrambling around to make their own version that sort-of works on the hardware without having all the knowledge they need. So it may not be as stable or some features may not work as well.
