No no no no no no no! I'm sure we can clear this up with a minimum of fuss.

Now, what you call a Barmcake is actually a Teacake, and what you call a Teacake, is actually a Currant Teacake!

I've noticed that you not alone in this delusion, and that many people from the wrong side of the pennines are also afflicted with these beliefs.

It's a regional thing, In Yorkshire it's a Teacake, in Lancashire its Barmcake, same thing, different name. The joke's not in the food but in the ongoing rivalry between Yorkshire / Lancashire about who's right (about anything at all!)
