Would have to be C++( either openGL , directx , but probably would try to use the ogre render platform) or preferably xna and c#.

You said you hadnt done any C# Nemko but its really easy to pick up.

I think for the sake of testing the water some really simple 2D shooter game would be ideal.
Dont worry about not making not getting to make 3D models its relatively straight forward to get them rendering as 2D which could be quite interesting visually.

@Ntrailz if you wanna help with game mechanics etc then it can be setup so that a verison could be built with an editable config file allowing tweaks.

@Garland DrGash had a good idea for a metroidvania type game about a year ago so if there were enough people on board then it would be possible but a game of that size would take a lot of work

If your in education check to see if your institute is registered on microsoft dreampsark. You get everything for free. It is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

grab everything its free burn iso's keep the cd keys profit.

Also you get a xna gold membership so if your so inclined you can write little xna games for xbox.

I'll see what I download. I have a nature that I won't download it until I really need to. So far I have Win XP Pro and W7 Pro. And there are like 50-60 products!

Well i was thinking that any one working on this would at least be able to get one of the express editions for c# or c++.

So I think this is the way to go.

I program in C++ and I know basics of C#. I also know OpenGL and write GLSL 1.2 shaders. I recently got my BSc degree and my thesis concerned homogeneus space transformations and quaternions in computer graphics. I would really like to participate in this project. If I can be any help then I'll gladly join the team ;]
