On a similar note, me and my brother had the idea of making a TF2 kart racer mod.The textures, props etc could all be used from the gcf, meaning you'd need TF2 to play the mod. The sticky issue was using the TF2 character models. They would have to become part of the kart model to include proper animations and whatever else. Essentially you're stripping them out of TF2 and distributing them, which is (we think) against the rules. You could try a Garrys Mod style solution, but Source is very pernickity about moving attached models, so chances are you have the car 5 feet ahead of the character.
I thought a Mario cart mod set in the tf2 myself after playing that Mario cart map, it was a rubbish map but the idea still seems plausible, unfortunately porting and redistribution is a legal minefield.
I can draw a quick sketch of the TF2 characters in a little car.

Re: Prgrammers, Artists, musicians etc etc
I know my way around Ableton Live and FL Studio. So if you need some sounds, Im willing to give it a go. Full tracks, i don't know about that but I can try (I can make some good speedcore, but I doubt youll be needing that).
Sorry folks i ve neglected this thread for a bit been slightly busy at work.
Im gonna try and round up the folks that are interested at some point this week for a group chat on steam friends. SO if i havnt added you on friends already then add me.
What i will do is grab everyone and try to chat about some ideas i have in a group chat on steam this week.
I normally get home about 6:45pm GMT so expect a chat request about thaqt time. I understand that not all people will be available but i will try my best to keep everyone that has expressed an interest involved as much as possible.
What i would suggest is posting up what night of the week you will be available for this so i can capture as many people as possible in the 1st instance.
Ill probably have to do this over a few nights but ill keep a log of that chat so that i can pass it on to people and they can be kept up tp date with what going on.
peace out yo

I know there seems to be a drawing consensus toward the cart racer or worms styled tf2 themed game at the moment, but I'd like to pitch an additional idea from a different angle.
A single-screen, 2D/2.5d style platform title, along the lines of these:
Could still have a tf2 theme with the classes and their varied abilities.. perhaps lightheartedly exploring their mysterious pasts and back-stories or something.
Time trials possible for the competitive, or maybe even a realtime multiplayer race version, with a trial and error ghost approach like Trackmania. An overall time limit per level, with unlimited repeat attempts to try and complete the level or improve their completion time against the other players before the next level.
Or the Little Big Planet/New Super Mario Bros. Wii multiplayer approach of trying to help/hinder the other players' progress through the level with their varied abilities.
The main draw to this idea was the thought that it might be nice to have a level editor, and with a simple single-screen per level approach, it would be fairly easy for people in the community that might be interested in contributing, to make a level of their own design without needing much in the way of technical skill.
These elements could be applied to a cart racer or worms styled game just as easily though, so this post is probably redundant. Just a long-winded thought.
I'm available today and tommorow evening. Just give me a call. I'll see if I can remember to add you Snatchers.
Gonna begin toying with XNA shortly. I'm thinking of building my engine in it instead, because I was hindered by the complexity of doing all the Direct X work manually. Also I'm curious as to what the .NET libraries contain. It may be less of a pain than with C++, even with the boost libraries.
Hopefully I should be able to get some scenes going, so I can begin making shaders Maybe create some useful data structures for various things. I don't know if there's a scene graph in XNA. If there isn't, it seems like a fun exercise to do for me at this point. I've come to love graphs, trees and forests.
In any case I can help with some ideas to the game itself. I may not be a designer, but I know what I enjoy to play and what I do not ;O
