Yeah with the discworld universe once you've read a few you can read any pretty much and know what is going on. There are a few exceptions to this, where some books follow directly on, one after another, but mostly just go for it.
Just finished reading Arthur C Clarke's The City and the Stars - absolutely brilliant book about mankind in the VERY far future. Definitely worth a read and you can pick it up for around £4 on Amazon. Bargain!
Right now I'm reading "The Good Soldier Švejk" by Jaroslav Hašek. If you're bored it's one of the best ways to have a nice laugh. I strongly recommend it.

Generally i don't read this stuff (cause i don't read the guardian newspaper where this was written), but i read one and found it rather amusing that i went and read the others, Funny with a hint of seriousness thrown in.
But my favorite book right now is
Desert War: The North African Campaign 1940-1943 by alan moorehead
I can't lie anything and everything ww2 related fascinates me no end, the book is a sort of diary kept by one guy through the 3 years he's out there. It is what it is, it's not politically / historically correct but it's his words from the day these events took place while he was there during the battles and the aftermath. It's an incredible book imo.
I recently read Malice in Blunderland by Jonny Gibbings, and I have to say, it was amazing...
Full of sex, drugs, swearing, and mistakes with spelling (purposefully), it tells the tale of an unnamed man, who has a rather unfortunate life, leading him to work for Ukrainians, shit in a desk, and become a Uni-Porn.
Brilliant book, recommend it highly!

Re: What are your favourite books/authors?
got
and
if you like human science (psychology, ethology, neurosciences, etc) both are great books. I would recommend both even you don't like those sciences but want to understand the human nature. Oliver Sacks and Carl Sagan may not be the best investigators, but they write it and explain it like we're reading a novel. Simple and eye opening
edit: btw, anyone knows if Richard Dawkins is worth reading?
