Post Breaking Bad Season 4 (SPOILERS)
If anyone is watching the new season of Breaking Bad, and feels like talking about the new episodes each week, please post your thoughts here* =)

* If you're not a fan of the show, you're not up to date, or you're only here to post a BB/MLP mashup video, this is not the thread for you. Thanks!

Episode 1: Box Cutter

"Well? Get back to work."

I'm just going to list a few of the highlights. You're welcome to offer up your own thoughts, or provide addtional detail.

The opening flashback manages to make Gale's** death even more tragic.

He's so happy to be building Gus's Super Lab. Opening the newly delivered crates, box cutter in hand. When he slowly starts pressing the issue of the meth sample, there was such an incredible sense of dread, ever rising as he praised Walter's handiwork (even if he can't quite determine why the mysterious, 99% pure, possibly higher, meth is blue), & sets in motion the events that lead to his hiring, and his own inevitable doom.

** I must admit to thinking, if only for a second, that maybe Jesse changed his mind, when I saw the bullet hole in the kettle.

Back in Super Lab, present-day.

Once he returned to the lab with, the near-catatonic with guilt, Jesse, and admits to Mike that he had been spotted, I felt it was pretty logical to assume that if anyone were to die it would be Victor (they're not going to kill off Walt & Jesse, now are they?). That said, it didn't make the remainder of our time in the lab any less tense.

I was surprised to see Walt, who we've seen become the ruthless Heisenberg time & again under pressure, remain very much Walter White in this scenario. The Walter who would feel threatened by Victor's ability to cook (& not forget the aluminum) & constantly plead for his own & Jesse's life as Gus stalks his way around the lab, methodically walking, changing, & then killing.

The focus on Gus's calm & methodical changing of clothes, both before & after the murder of Victor was the perfect way to show exactly what he is capable of.

The reactions to this act were very interesting:

Mike looked genuinely shocked, and considering he has been the most casual towards crime & violence of all the players so far in the series, he's got to be feeling a lot less safe working for Gus now.

Jesse was startled 'alive'. Having been mute for the entire episode until his great call-back to the series 1 bathtub-disposal incident, he certainly seemed to be enjoying that breakfast from Denny's.

Walt being Walt looked appropriately terrified, and his paranoid opinions about Gus, perhaps tempered by Jesse's bullish thoughts to the contrary, could see him making some even worse choices as the series progresses.

Other thoughts:

Am I alone in thinking Skylar actually looked more pregnant in this epsiode than she did carrying baby Holly? I tend to dislike the female characters playing against the 'leads' in these shows (Carmela, in the Sopranos, Betty Draper in Mad Men) but it was fun to see her Breaking a little Bad herself with the manipulation of the locksmith.

Hank, poor Hank "I'm bidding on a new mineral" =(

Saul is reaching 'The Conversation' levels of paranoia.

Gale's notebook.

I love Breaking Bad! The new episode was fantastic. Lots of good long silences, but somehow when the episode ended I thought only 20 minutes had gone.

And Tom, don't come into a thread labelled SPOILERS and say 'no spoilers please' :P
GUS DIES

Ok i've watched it now.

I felt it was a rather slow episode, trying to make us feel that walt is gonna die really doesn't work on episode 1 of a season..

Still i'm glad it's back, not much else on atm. I miss house :(

The sound of the forklift, walt was driving reminded me of the heavy's minigun somehow :DDD

Great episode imo

I loved the timelapse-part with jesse and mike.

I'm glad they didn't extend it to a sixth season, or cut it too short as they were rumoured to be considering. Too many shows are allowed to drag on too long.

Yeah, I'm glad they end the series instead of milking it like a cow and risk a huge quality loss.

I'm excited to see, what this new work-relationship between mike and jesse will end in.

Mike is my absolute favorite character in the show, would hate to see him die :D

I like Mike, he gave Jesse a well deserved telling off today.

I wonder if Walt's babbling that caused Hank to re-open his investigation was really that harmful - the blue meth is still being sold, so he might have taken another look anyway.

Yeah, still... Hank is not dumb... first the W.W. in the lab notes, and Walt's behaviour and non-verbal communication are suspicious.

And the Vegan-Gale-Pollos-thingy also leads Hank in the right direction.
