DnB TF2 remix tune and a general ramble
liking the old stylee jungle remix of the theme tune up on the music section... a little rough round the edges but does the job + would be so cool and ultimately geeky to drop into a set (although I think the days of playing out are behind me)
been looking at doing some kind of TF2 remix meself (will be the first in quite a while) but all my software (Reason3, Recycle2, Cubase SX2+ many vst's, Sforge+ many more) is on an old HD somewhere- so may be a way away yet.
Have been shying away from the DnB scene a bit last few years (although thats what im known for round here) so might try and drop the tempo to near the origional and just do something a little more big-beat, commercial... need to start sampling i guess
But, well done to mastergrr, whether he be a member of the community or not. Good solid effort.
How appropriate, I've been trying in vain to have a go myself.
I've got Reason3, but hardly a clue how to use it. Usually end up shouting things like "Come on you f**king noise box, work!!"
And that's just one of the samples
That track was pretty badass, I wouldn't have thought TF2 and DnB would mesh so naturally

Re:Rant about music software
tempo was a bit wobbly, would have gone a little (5+ bpm) slower, depending on the amen break he was using.
seriously there's nothing to reason, or recycle for that matter, which can seem daunting, but are really simpler than they seem.
The main thing is just to play and get to know the main software synths (maelstrom, subtractor), samplers (NN-19, NN-XT?) and drum machines (redrum, DrRex + recycle and linking through to the samplers etc)....
You can have so much fun with that program without even creating anything of substance- If you have a midi-keyboard with knobs (or even not) it's just great for booting up, loading a random beat or loop and just having a twiddle; making squelchy electric noises can only ever be fun. Just load a mixer up and then have a play with everything....
Cubase was the one that really blew my mind (no idea what version it's up to now). You're able to do everything up to sync-ing up and creating videos, from simple add-ons which will replicate anything from your mad-uncles' Organ, to the latest Korg Synths- very accurately. Some of the VST's could really save you a fortune when it comes to synths. More on the live recording/mastering side than the straight forward sequencing found in reason. Luckily Cubase recognises alot of Reason (and other program's) files.
For mixing sample loops and mp3s I totally reccomend Ableton Live (prob version 7+ now)... If its not something u want Re-cycled into Reason and its nice and clean- this is a great place to link and cut loops. Quite creative how people can throw stuff together by warping sections of seperate tracks together in this one, u can even pre-plan a whole mix, either to sample, or just add twiddles to while playing out at a party.
Makes me realise how much I miss it all... may have to uncover it all and dust off my keyboard, see what I can do with some TF2 samples.
Alot of my mates take care of the fancy harware, analogue stuff... but im on the software/ drumming side
