Post Re: London olympics
It was everything I hoped it would be from the opening ceremony to the bitter end of Boris waving the flag. I enjoyed pretty much all of it. Even being able to avoid some of the inane presenters (looking at you Lineker) and going my own way on 24 channels.

It was all glorious, just glorious... well except some of that damn music in the closing ceremony, but I must be getting (got) old.

And as for you dirty old men drooling over little superstar Jess Ennis, you should be ashamed of yourselves... *dribble*

For those of us not in relationships, drooling was perfectly acceptable and should be actively encouraged.

I used up all my drool for the Dutch women's hockey team. And a little bit for the discus thrower.

The girls had the male swimmers and the boys had the women's hockey teams - something there for everyone I think.

I loved these Olympics. :D

Cold shower time...

Were they not just amazing... *dribble*

Watched some nice Beach Volleyball as well, just for the sport of course...

Sporting moment for me was that Saturday night hour, closely followed by the joy of Jade Jones in the Taekwondo.

Non-sporting moment for me:

I went over on the 3rd and saw some of the Scull finals, we missed the first race unfortunately.

Highlight for me would be the chinese hurdling champion that got injured, but got up and hopped all the way to the finish line and was carried by the other competitiors.

The sprit of the games summed up there and then for me.

Also the BMX park was fun to watch.

It was perfect for the industrial revolution section of the show and I guess was heavily influenced by the work they did on the stage adaptation of Frankenstein.

UW aficionados will pick out parts of 'Two Months Off' dropped in at around the eight minute mark and at the end of the track, so it sent a warm fuzzy feeling through me knowing that they'd snuck that in. It's a great track and at 17 minutes long, it's perfect for me to cook my infamous sausage mash to.

Caliban's Dream still gets my vote though - beautiful vocals, bells, a choir and top whistling.

Good to see the boys getting some mainstream recognition at last, and perhaps making people realise that they've done quite a bit since Born Slippy - over to you Andrew Neil and co...

OMG! I had forgotten that Andrew Neil video after seeing it on Have I Got News For You. I think the nightmares will be back now...

Yes this is indeed equally great really.

They really did get the music spot on in the opening ceremony.

I got to see the road races and time trials. Circuit pretty much went past my house. Still, had to run back home after seeing them enter Richmond park to get back in time to watch the end of the race on TV. Streets were packed too, especially at the time trials. Walked for 15 mins or so along the river from Kingston to find a space in the crowd. Lots of noise for the Brits but tbh people were almost as enthusiastic for every rider. I'm not one for nationlism but I must admit feeling just a lil pride.

As for the rest of the Olympics...well its hard not to root for your home team and wow did they ever produce the goods. I think Murray winning convincingly in the singles was a highlight. Federer was as gracious in defeat as Murray was back at Wimbledon.

The Who were great. How the fuck Roger Daltrey can sing that well at 68 is beyond me. Freddie Mercury's shoes are hard to fill. Opening ceremony was better. I actually really like the Abide With Me bit towards the end. Pretty appalling that NBC chose not to show it or the tribute to the victims of the bombings...

So yah, I really enjoyed it. Glad it happened even if it cost us more than we could really afford. One amazing show at the Colosseum while the empire crumbles around us :P. Still, as the papers/politicians never tire in pointing out, It was a good advertisement to rest of the world. Now come over here and spend your money please.
