tbh, one of the main reasons I stopped playin BF2 was because of all the focus on awards, ranks and unlocks. The sense of achievement got less and less with each new one til in the end, I couldn't be arsed grinding anymore.
Proabably a big reason why I just want to get this grind out of the way and not let it interfere with my enjoyment of the game.

As far as I'm concerned, it's just a game. And I'm not sure if I particularly want to be rewarded with a rather useless achievement after playing a game for so long. Makes feel a bit like a saddo (the fact that I probably am is besides the point ).
Ok, you get a new gun, whoo hoo. Hows that going to help pay the bills though? To me what Dirty is proposing doesn't sound any different than leaving your PC on overnight for a long hard drive defrag session or thorough virus scan.
I realise I'm in the minority, but hell, I don't have a problem with it.
For me it's just a very simple principle of what achievement means. Regardless of whether the scenario is a game, sport, work or anything else in life, an achievement is about accomplishing something successfully, whether that means by effort, skill, practice or perseverance, by fair and honest means.
In my book cheating doesn't have to involve a third party. You can cheat yourself or an achievement (e.g. a test).
I don't expect everyone to agree with me, and it doesn't bother me if they don't. It's not something that I would want to argue about.
I didn't chase any of the TF2 achievements, they just happened as consequence of playing the game. As I look right now I'm still 16 out of 17.. because I haven't wanted to play a full round with each class. I'm not arsed about it.
No hard or bad feelings. Just a difference of opinion.

Is there any concensus on whether unlocks will be used in competetive matches. BF2 for example has strict rules on the use of unlocks ie. none.
I know the guns will supposedly be totally balanced and thus no advantage over each other but match scenarios are completely different and one team may not have all the weapons available to them.
