Portal is one of my all time favourites; not even the massive backlash and irrational hatred there was for it a few months after release will change that.
Definitely check out prelude if you haven't done so already, some quirky moments and whilst the production values weren't that of a Valve game it was still very enjoyable.

I never found the humour in Portal to be 'laugh out loud' funny. It's more like reading a Terry Pratchett novel, or The Hitchiker's Guide..., it's amusing, it makes you smile, but it doesn't make you look crazy on a train.
If some people don't find it funny I can understand that, but personally that's my favourite kind of humour. I just hope the second one lives up to it.

The purpose of black comedy is to make light of serious and often taboo subject matter, and some comedians use it as a tool for exploring vulgar issues, thus provoking discomfort and serious thought as well as amusement in their audience. Popular themes of the genre include murder, suicide, war, barbarism, drug abuse, terminal illness, domestic violence, insanity, nightmare, disease, racism, disability (both physical and mental), chauvinism, corruption, and crime.

Re: Free Portal till 24th May
Omg I agree with Wisty again lol, the moons must be aligned or something.
Definitly not black humour/comedy if you wanna be picky about these things. Glados is more of a dry sardonic wit from the bits I've heard.
Portal was awesome. Kept me gripped for the duration of the game through Valve's now-typical minimalist storytelling philosophy and an excellent performance by Ellen McLain, and made me hungry for more exposition by having to seek out the insane scribbling and pictures etc. in the nooks, much like the Half-Life franchise's storytelling.
Choosing to place it in the Half-Life canon intrigues me most though, interested to see how much they choose to integrate the two further down the road. Hopefully it'll be more than just "Oh look you're now fighting through an aperture science locale." via Half-Life or more Black Mesa digs via Portal, unfortunately I doubt it'll amount to much more than that though.
