i think as long as the console was made after aug 08 your safe from the red ring. also not so hard to fix just screw on the x-clamp with a sturdy bolt, easy if you have an engineerial brother lol, just dont tell him he can keep it if he fixes it *facepalm*
that could be hyperbole, but its what i heard and my (other one) was made dec 08 and its still going strong
I would go for XBOX, even though Microsoft charges anyone for everything If you have the money there is no problem. Also the multiplayer part seems to be better incorporated in the XBOX systems (doesn't matter if XBOX Live needs a monthly fee).

If you want a console for games then get a 360. If you want a Bluray player that plays the majority of the 360 games but at worse resolutions/framerates then get a PS3.
PSN is a shambles compared to Live and I'd much rather pay the £25 a year for Live I pay than put up with the freebie pile of trash PSN is.
Before you start shouting fanboy I have both consoles (and a Wii!). The only PS3 games I have are the ones not on 360 or US only releases (Uncharted 1+2, MGS4, MLB10 The Show, Heavy Rain) because the online features and image quality are better on 360 for multi platform releases.
only prob i've ever had with xbox online, apart from the dodgy matchmaking system, is it can be impossible to find MP games of older games. I have the darkness, blacksite, tiger wood 07, perfect dark zero and i have never beem able to play online with them because of not being able to find any games. maybe after an hour you will find 1 lol.
having said that the only console games i do, and ever really want to play online is worms and peggle and theres no prob with these
Perfect dark zero is the worst console game I have ever played, not surprising there's no playerbase.
But yeah, fair point, if it's (older) niche-games, such as Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix in my case, it's going to be tough to find players...but I'd assume that's even more so the case on PS3.
And now I'd like to take the opportunity to lol at "facts only!"....hahahahaha...like that's gonna happen.

This is true
In aug-sept 07 they put a new chipset into all xboxes producted from then on (called "falcon" iirc), which uses a different connection system and is apparently less likely to RROD (if it does, which most likely wont, it would be a seperate problem to what previously causes it e.g. dropping the xbox), my late oct 07 one (which i've confirmed to have the new chipset) is still going strong.
The falcon chipset is also interestingly the same one they put in elites, thats right, aside from the paint job and the HDD the xbox regulars and elites are the same.
