Gifting is still a functional workaround for that, isn't it?
I've never actually tried if that works to circumvent (although I guess it should), but in this case I'm not interested enough to bother- thanks for bringing that option to mind though.

Yeah the game is very hit and miss with randoms, they either help the team sharing out money, or wander of on their own little crusade and get killed and just be generally annoying.
With mates, it's a real blast.
Be warned though, If you don't like grind-fests then this might not be your cup of tea, but for £3 it's worth every penny.
