Post epic.FIVE LAN Party, Staffordshire, 24th-27th Feb 2011
Hi everyone! Minty gave me the OK to post, so I thought I'd let you know about a LAN party you might be interested in! Lots of fun gaming, great atmosphere and even a £1,000 TF2 tournament to spice things up a bit!

epic.FIVE Website

General Information

Dates: Thursday 24th - Sunday 27th February 2011
Times: 4pm Thursday - 4pm Sunday
Venue: Exhibition Hall, Uttoxeter Racecourse, Wood Lane, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. ST14 8BD
Spaces: 200
Cost: £55 Participant (£50 until 6pm 1st November), £10 Spector Day Pass, £20 Spectator Whole Event Pass

Food & Drink

There will be a bar open during the event, all alcohol must be purchased from the bar. A microwave, kettle and fridge will be available in the venue.
The nearby town of Uttoxeter has plenty of catering outlets which will be listed on the event intranet and a catering service will be available at least for breakfast.
The event team will also be running a 24h snack and (soft) drink bar including items like crisps, chocolate, caffeine drinks and ear plugs.

Activities

We have a few new activities lined up for this event including:

  • £1000 Team Fortress 2 LAN Tournament - More Details
  • epic.Games - Various big games will go up through the day where we try to get as many people into the server for some epic action!
  • epic.Tournaments - Our fun tournaments, nothing serious, no prizes, just honour, pride etc. Some of these fun tournaments won't even be on computers!
  • epic.Tunes - Throughout the day and evening we'll get some tunes on the go to give ++ atmosphere.
  • epic.Quiz - Join with teams of up to 5 people for a chance to win in our quiz. Everyone throws in a few pounds and the winning teams take the prize.
  • epic.Hunt - Follow the clues around the venue and virtual world to pick up a prize.
  • epic.Achievements - Certain things that you do at the event will give achievements which will be added up at the end.

Not to mention all of the usual things you would expect to find such as consoles, social/chill-out area, licensed bar, etc.

Have a look at the photo gallery for more pictures of our last event.

Hope to see you there, and remember you have until November 1st to take advantage of our early payment discount.

20 pounds for watching other people play on their computers?

Gee, what an offer!

Tram loads of people spend more money than that to go to lans. It's not about watching people play on their computer. It's about meeting people you know from gaming in real life, and socialising, getting drunk, etc.

Looks good. Hope it goes well mate.

Thanks! This is one of the great things about LANs, the socialising and meeting people. A TF2 tournament is just a nice bit on top! The big public games we run are great too (who doesn't like 16 v 16 on Goldrush...)

With respect to spectators, it's useful if there's two people and they want to share a PC or for significant others as well.

If anyone has any questions about LANs, the event or wants to know more, then you can either PM me or reply in this thread. It would be great to see some of you there :)

I hope you don't mind me bumping this post. Just to let you know that we've confirmed a few details for the TF2 tournament, the rules and the prize fund.

Working with our expert game admins, Tapley & Mole, we've come up with a slightly different set of rules which are essentially vanilla TF2 with medic unlocks, as well as an unusual twist on the usual Turbine gameplay, just for a bit of a change to other TF2 tournaments.

We've also decided to increase the prize fund, so it's as follows:

1-12 teams: £1000 (1st - £750, 2nd - £250)
13-16 teams: £1500 (1st - £1175, 2nd - £375)

The winning team will also get 6 free tickets for the next event. The second place team will get 6 £20 discount vouchers for the next event. We've also got TF2TV covering the event, so it should be a great one!

More information on the tournament can be found on the epic.LAN website.

Woah, that's a lot of money just for a LAN party prize. Even if it is a big one. :o
