Post L4D, yeah or meh?
I finally got a few pennies together and I plan on buying L4D tomorrow. Is it any good? Or is it boring and repetitive? This question was probably asked before, but hey why not?

Well it certainly hasn't got the variety or longevity right off the go that tf2 had I will say that honesty. But it is atleast in my opinion a great game. Totally different to tf2 of course and has more in-common at its survivor base with modernday realworld shooters and focusing on small squad/team play, more so than in any other game I have played it is essential to work with your fellows to succeed. Teams that cannot work as one will soon get ripped apart in advanced/expert in co-op or versus.

Agree with NTrailz, really. Good teamplay is a must ftw.
There aren't many maps/episodes at the moment and if you get bored with some games quickly, it might not be one for you. Personally, I'm still having fun playing it, especially in versus mode, and as the infected. I love trying to work out where I can spawn in the best position to do the most damage to one (or more) of the survivors. If you can pick off a loner, you sense the panic as they hope their team save them before they die. Great when it works out and frustrating as hell when it doesn't. And then it's your turn to play as a survivor...

Plus, hopefully there will be more maps coming soon

A lovely diversion and a welcome change from TF2. I don't think there is enough variety though, in terms of maps, weapons and enemies. The weapons themselves especially, the autoshotgun is so good it renders all the other weapons superfluous. I wish they would just add the counterstrike armoury into the game, yeah weapons overlap but choice is always lovely.

The game is *awesome* when you have a good team going, if I wasn't in the HH it would probably really start to suck. I pity people who have to play with random pubs.

I haven't played l4d very much tbh, I've played the scenarios, done some coop and some versus games online and none of it gripped me especially. Playing Boomer on versus is probably the most fun I had. I think it has a lot to do with who you play with, I don't doubt that its a huge laugh with the right group, but then there are few things which aren't amusing if you do it with the right people sooo...

I feel like valve dropped the ball a bit as well. The scenarios are lengthy affairs, but there are only 4 and only 2 are working for versus. The respawn time is really quite lengthy for the infected and while I know its to keep the game balanced I sort of feel there is something they could let the infected players do while they wait for the spawn. Then there are few map problems, I remember playing one game against the survivors on the last stage of No Mercy. All four camped in an area only accessible from the front, any attempt to attack them was futile, only the boomer could hope to drain their ammo with a horde of zombies...
Finally you can't pick which of the special infected you wish to play as. You get 2 hunters, a smoker and a boomer which are randomly distributed around the team. I think you should at least be able to opt for a favorite, and I wonder if game balance would be hurt too bad if they let you have 2 boomers or 2 smokers (as long as you always have a boomer in your team)

I'm sure they'll continue to add to the game and bring it down in price. If I had the choice I probably would wait a while.

You can freespec while you're dead. YOu just need to check the box in options which says "Allow Freespec In Multiplayer" or something like that. It's quite fun to just fly around the map.

There's one thing that bugs atleast me, Ares and Extra in L4D.
THE F***ING LOBBY SYSTEM FOR RETARDS!!!!!!1111 WHAT THE F*** WERE THEY THINKING????
WHY THE HELL DOES IT HAVE TO KICK US OUT OF OUR GAME IF SOMEONE IS JOINING THROUGH A LOBBY???

Because it's exactly the same sort of joining system as the 360 x-box live "experience", including the way our ping is displayed.

Hence, lobby system.

Hence, sh*te. :x

That said, the game itself kicks arse, though as has been said above, it can get a bit repetitive. VS mode does spice it up a fair bit, but the way the Specials are dolled out to the players is frustrating. I've been through an entire No Mercy campaign without once seeing the tank in my control :(

There's meant to be more content coming soon (I've heard rumours of a Shopping Mall (ala, Dawn of the Dead) and a Winchester Arms (Shaun of the Dead) campaigns), and looking at Valve's past record, they usually do well with content updates.

Fingers crossed ^^

It get's boring if you play it 10 hours a day, a few games here and there, and mates to play it with are what i would suggest, it's also going to have updates and stuff so expect now infected/ maps and guns, then ofc there is the community made maps. For me it's become a welcome break from TF2, especially when it becomes too spamy to actually be any fun.

I know this thread pretty much answers the question I'm about to posit, but I shall ask thee with disregard to my pedantry.

Is it worth getting? I keep feeling the urge to play it (my impression from the beta was of hilarity. It was damn funny getting kicked to death and watching other players getting gang raped by the hordes), but I can't rid myself of the nigling urge that I'll get utterly, utterly bored of it once I've finished it a few times (I'm not really a completist)
