Seems that Valve left another little known about feature in L4D and just disabled it.

The command is: survivor_allow_crawling 1

Taken from here; http://www.apex-games.net/?page_id=145

You can see the non-working vid of it (from the previous link) here; http://www.apex-games.net/left4dead/scr ... _crawl.avi

Basically you can't shoot while crawling along at a snails pace so it does have a counter balance.

What do people think about trying this out on a server? Is this something that you feel would be suited to both VS and Co-op or just one, if so which?

Wow, awesome. guess we have to try-out this feature to see if its balanced :D.

The tongue_allow_voluntary_release “1″ is awesome too, makes you able to play the smoker tad more tactical, holding people down till someone gets there or releasing em when they are down, I would like to see that command used :D.

Personally, I'd like to see both features implemented as a trial - they sound pretty awesome.
I wonder if there's an "allow hunter to jump off" feature... I don't honestly know if it's possible; can't say I ever thought about it til now.

Our L4D servers are running L4D v1.0.1.0 (Linux, Dedicated, Protocol 7)

It is not possible to set the cvar tongue_allow_voluntary_release to 1, unless the server has the cvar sv_cheats set to 1. As it is classified as a cheat.

The cvar survivor_allow_crawling appears to be unknown. At least when I try to set it or retrieve it's value the following is returned "Unknown command "survivor_allow_crawling"

Perhaps this is normal for a hidden cvar, so survivor_allow_crawling 1 has been added to the server.cfg. Let me know if it works. :)

Hmm just tested this on server1 and then on a singleplayer game and I think Valve might've properly disabled it now. Couldn't get it functioning even with sv_cheats 1 on. :(

I can only find reference to the crawl speed setting on here http://left4dead411.com/l4d_cvar_list.pdf

Was pretty late last night when I found this and didn't have a chance to test it out beforehand, sorry if I got anyones hopes up. :/

It'd be nice if server admins could set these variables to offer slightly different gameplay experiences.
