I would still be up for some public vs, but as Nirv rightly states it would have to be under a gentlemans agreement not to play like lame gits. :P

Corner camping etc. There are a number of spots on crescendo's and finales that if a whole team use make it an impossible task for infected etc. It's all survivor tactics and not the infected, as infected are really limited tactically.

We had a major case of this in a ladder match last week. The opposing team was so tightly packed into corners that they took on the appearance of the Hindu goddess Kali

Lame bastards, apparently '99% of the teams do this'.

How lame, and boomer + hunter seperation + smoker grab does nothing to counter this?

Not really a lot of these spots are so good because of long sights lines as well. Boomer only has 50hp so like 2-3 pistol shots at range are enough to kill him. Smoker is easily countered by melee'ing the trapped person or failing that shooting the tongue. This won't seperate them and with a broken tongue the smoker will be on the longer old cooldown, so won't get another go untill the time has almost passed that they will be in that spot.

When you have overlapping players it even counters the anti-melee-spam mechanic that Valve put in. Because you have a limited arc to cover and you can take turns when the cooldown kicks in.

All in all these are the kind of things that stopped me playing comp l4d games.

It's also some of the reasons we are seeing the new special infected in l4d2, to specifically counter some of these play styles. The rest of the lameness I hope they will cover with map specific things, like making crescendos run-throughs etc instead of campfests.

So pretty much Valve itself thinks that l4d isn't as good as it could be and wants to start over. I think thats one major factor of them going with l4d2.

Yeah, i like the idea of say defending the room of the hospital from hordes not defending a small closet from hordes :/

One thing though l4d suffers from is ammo, theres too much of it one of the things about a zombie game is the panic which l4d did have at the start, i think expert should just give you less ammo etc and have lits more zombies rather than more damaging zombies

With l4d2's melee weapons I definately think that they need to replace pistols or make pistol ammo limited. Otherwise that aspect will be even worse. (I think it's the first of these judging by the vids.)

I just had a mad thought. What if a big part of survivals implementation into L4D was as a datamining tool for L4D2....

...Give people the perfect corner camping etc scenarios with loads of stuff(pickups) and a constantly increasing difficulty curve. Thereby telling Valve exactly how effective it is as a strategy and giving them a basis to start to break the mentality of always falling into this behaviour.

One can always hope, if they don't fix it well enough it will be the bane of versus still.
