It all felt a bit too familiar to me.

*The melee, whilst a decent addition, isnt as useful as you would hope. And so far, it seems most weapons are just slight variations of each other. Can't see the difference in picking up an Uzi or the silenced Mac 10, or between the autoshotguns.

*Boomer bile; probably more useful when you have something worth throwing it at.

*The spitter is good, doing what it's supposed to do, but the jockey seemed far too easy to get rid of and hardly what you'd call dangerous.

*Liked the jukebox.

*The shock paddles could be interesting, but only on the most difficult setting/in VS.

*Characters had a lot more personality, partly due to slightly better animation, but the bulk of it is probably down to more vocal interaction.

*People mentioned AI director being improved; I didnt really see a change other than special infected spawns being more predictable.

Opening up VS mode would have probably given people (or me at least) a better idea of the changes. Right now it just feels like the first game with a few weapon skins and a couple of addtions tacked on.

The Jockey is kind of pathetic on its own, but it comes into its own when it walks you across some Spitter goo, or into a Boomer or a Witch. Or takes the rear survivor in a tank fight with no one noticing. Then it becomes incredibly annoying, esspecially on expert.

Must say I almost totally disagree spidey :?.

The mac10 and uzi are way different - mac does less damage with faster damage fall off but fires and reloads faster.

The auto shotguns - SPAS has a really tight spread but doesnt really do much damage. The Auto Shotgun spreads a lot but does HUGE damage close in.

The guns really need tweaking - magnum and snipers are WAY too good. The magnum is too accurate and the snipers fire and reload too quickly.

Assault rifle is my favorite - massive clip of 60 rounds, stupidly accurate and 3 shot burst. It does enough damage without doing too much meaning you find you either need 3 or 6 rounds for most kills. A close second imo is the big sniper.

The charger needs more health or more armour as its tbh rubbish atm.

Spitter is excellent, especially in combo with a horde/jockey/charger.

Loving the jockey possibilities - it needs to be used in combo with a spitter, charger or tank (or just in the midst of a mass attack). You have basically no chance of doing damage otherwise. Its easy to run round in the middle of a horde without being seen due to being short. Does huge melee claw damage as well. Im a big fan.

The map design is simply excellent, AI pathfinding far better and SI group attacks are now somewhat co-ordinated.

The only thing I dont like is that its essentially a re-skin of cs:source. OK the game itself is different, but the engine feels unchanged. The guns seem to be identical ports in feel and damage, as do some of the long range bullet wound effects (headshot is direct from cs). I'm trying not to judge it too harshly though as much may change in terms of balance and feel by the final release.

A worthy successor imo. I don't feel cheated that this has come out, I feel cheated that I paid £26.99 for the first one when in hindsight its perhaps only worth £15. This looks much more likely to be a "full" game.

Won't be buying it until it goes 50% off or less, it's oddly reminiscent of the first game...and I have this crippling fear that it'll be bug ridden for a few months before it's fixed.

Anyway things I liked:

1) Being forced in to a corner by a horde only to pull out your trusty guitar to bang them on the head
2) riot armor zombies
3) spitter's anti camping efficiency
4) The characters, other than rochelle who sounds/feels like playing a paper cut out of a character.

Things I don't like:
1) Melee weapons are overpowered, boomer is useless because if you pull out a machete a horde gets cut down within miliseconds
2) The charger is useless, I can't imagine a situation where he'd actually hit someone, he moves too slow, he's too large, and easy to dodge.
3) Tank = useless, boomer bile him, he is as good as dead because he gets slowed by 1000 zombies swarming him.

That's all I got for now until I see vs mode but this really feels like L4D1 all over again so I'm gonna wait till it gets cheaper.

Not playing on expert then? ;)

Was saying to Ares just yesterday how the effectiveness of melee falls off a cliff after advanced and is purely a gimmick then, because, the risk of entering melee is not worth the reward.

Played with finis a few moments ago, got swarmed by a horde, had 50 hp, managed to melee them all down, and revive everyone after it (was on advanced)

True, it sucks on expert but VS will be played on normal, and I honestly think that melee is overpowered since it's basically a cleaving attack that just devastates the commons.

Crippling flaw with the AI sometimes, when you get smokered, sometimes all they seem to do is stand stock still, looking at the smoker, but making no effort to shoot it or melee you to save your ass. So you just die. This happened to me twice in a row.
