It seems like this still really isn't common knowledge out there yet, so I thought I would make this little topic to help out


Step 1

Make sure you have console enabled. It is disabled by default and can be turned on in Options/Keyboard.

People with non-uk layout keyboards can use this:

bind "p" "showconsole"

*showconsole can also be replaced with toggleconsole to your preference.


Step 2

Open the console with ` or whichever key you bound it too. Then enter this:

sv_search_key hh

Now close the console.


Step 3

Start up a lobby and play as you normally would.


Additional Optional Step

The sv_search_key hh line can also be entered into either the launch options or autoexec.cfg. This will enable connecting to our servers by default from all lobbies you make.

To set it in the launch options (easiest way):
Right click on left 4 dead 2 in the My Games list & select properties.. click the "set launch options.." button & add in the following text
+sv_search_key hh
you may also wish to disable the intro videos with -novid

Alternatively you can set it in autoexec.cfg:
open up notepad, type in sv_search_key hh click file -> save as...
navigate to Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\cfg\ change save as type to all files and enter in the filename as autoexec.cfg


*Tip* Don't forget the use of the openserverbrowser command in the console for the oldskool TF2 style browser.

Any idea if this is working for Scavenge mode yet?

Yes it is working again now, and it had only stopped working for like one night...



Good few nights previous to that we had no problems switching between, then the functionality stopped for some reason. K3D spent time looking into it yesterday for us and sorted it out fine.

Not sure if this is working again, I've tried sv_search_key hh and it just starts up a game hosted by me.

Servers probably need a restart. After so long they seem to not be found by search keys.
