I read this quiet a few weeks back and though nothing of it but since looking at it again they appear to have made some really good progress, to the point they've released a couple of the maps already, and from what iv'e heard they have worked hard to make it a bit more unique by changing the weather, time of day and textures so on so forth.

I would advise not downloading them just yet as they are in beta and have alot of niggles with them and the installation as of right now is, not hard, just a little messy but i think it's something we should keep an eye on.

I'm sure valve is going to have a problem with these mods though. They've got to be planning to do something similar.
