how about you have volunteer extras to each team? plenty of reg's of high quality who'd be willing to fill up numbers for either team.

basically this is really what I want to get out of it, and admittedly it's hard to accomplish in a fast moving fps like this but i think it is still possible:

as some may have noticed, i like analyzing strategy and tactics within tf2. What i'd really like is the opportunity to do some training and tactics within a map. I don't really care who's on who's team as long as each team accepts that they are going to work together to overcome the obstacles the other team presents. right so this is still a bit vague.

In the ideal situation what would happen is we'd get two teams together, have have them on an additional communications channel: either team speak or the steam community chat thing (using a joined chat window or something). We start a map. start playing for a bit and if we get into a stale mate or something we call a timeout. Each team then gets 2 minutes to discuss amongst themselves a strategy or tactic, but no one moves! Ie its a proper freeze time. Then we resume play and try and work these tactics out. Now a couple of things this requires. first: an adjustment on the map timing; basically an admin to make sure we dont get timed out (surely there's an admin command to either stop the countdown or to cancel it all togther), and the understanding by all players that once a time out is called EVeryone freezes. If you died, then you wait at spawn. if you were in the middle of rocketing people you stop for a while. Now one way of getting this properly monitored is using marshals/referees in spectator spots.

Now I know this is a little extreme but even something slightly towards this ideal would probably add great benafit to people's experience and to people's team working abilities.

I'm sure lots of people have encountered the scenario where they're playing a map and they think "you know, if i could just get the whole team's attention for one second while i explain my brilliant idea to them, we'll probably be able to crack this impenetrable defence we're facing at the moment, because I can really see the achillies heal of thier defence" and by doing something like this you'd know that the people you're playing with really are receptive to new team working abilities.

Now some sort of order would have to be placed on this. you would in effect have to have a 'squad leader', at the very least a 'chairman' to decide which idea's will be carried out first. This could be voted ahead of time or something. but it would mean that important tactics could be tested out in a really well coordinated manner. Especially if we can get tactics down in the form of a playbook i.e.: right now we're gonna have a 2.1 defence (made up name) where we have 2 forward engineer sentries and one rear one, with a specified number of demo's and soliders covering various points. On maps like dustbowl and gravel pit where you have set up time it allows the defensive team to hone and perfect a set defencive strategy, while giving the offensive team the opportunity to crack holes in it. This is especially important if say you go against proper clans in competitions, where you want to make sure none of your strategies can be exploited.


right so this was another long ramble, and probably especially jumbled up due to a couple of bottles of wine. but i hope it makes sense.

Will try and organize something but probably not until next year though since I will leave for my xmas holiday in 2 weeks.

Hi, I'm interested in taking part, especially along the lines that innocent and willcodejavaforfood are suggesting. I get more fun out of the game, when there's a bit of communication and organisation going on, (even if it doesn't always work :lol: ).

I will leave the first question unanswered (guessing no though) but to change your screen handle
open steam, click settings on the bottom of the main steam window and choose the friends tab.
Top of that tab there is a text field for setting your screen handle :)

Ok,

so we have confirmation of people wanna do it, and we have a list of people. Now lets try getting it done?

The only real problem i can see is the whole 'actually setting a time and date for the whole thing'.

So how about we propose one and just see who turns up or not? I think that especially with the addition of extra servers we can pretty much state Any time and we'll probably get people to show up. And at the end of the day whats the worst that can happen? we wait around and if no one shows we just go back on the main server and play as usual.

This seems to be just like organizing a raid in WoW or something (i can see Githzerais' eyes rolling in dispair) but i've done it a lot and what happens is at first you get very few people turning up, but once people see its a regular thing that is organized properly, they'll be coming to join in hordes complaining about not being allowed in cause it's too full.

So which buttons do we need to press and which admin do we need to spam to allow us a managed time slot on one of the servers? Theres a separate topic on the forum about HH having a clan practice session, and I'm thinking why not just combine them together. Especially now while the idea is new and there's not that many people yet?

So Im gonna go out on a limb here and say how about 2 sessions, a weekend one and a week one.

First one being Thursday Evening (giving us a couple of days to let people know), and second one being sat evening? We give it 1-2 hours, starting from after dinner time....so start about 7 or 8 ish uk time? We all meet on one of the alternative HH servers. Let anyone on, but people will have to make space (i.e. kicked) for people who have signed up to this (or a specially created separate thread).

So things need to do to get the ball rolling:

>contact admin and see if this get the green light.
(Sent a letter to gimpy, waiting for a reply)

>make sure we get at least one admin to join this thing so we can sort out teams/maps and other things.

A vaugely organised friendly seems doable. like u say theres plenty of good regs' to fill in on either side. Looking forward to kicking some proper ass after chrimbo though :)
