I would much prefer a 6vs6 match or mayby a tournament but this would tak alot of organising, especially teasm wise, and im not sure how you would do this, whether you elect team leaders and then get them to select their players or what, mayby we could have the comp team as one of the teams Imagine how that tourney would go
I realise that this would take quite a lot of organising. I'd be happy to help with it as much as I can. Maybe I should start a thread to gauge interest/bounce ideas around.....?
Here's an example of how we could do it.
6v6 mini tournament. 4 teams can enter, so only 24 players to organise.
4 team captains are chosen by the admins. Captains are then responsible for getting their team together (6 players + 2 reserves?)
Hold the event on a saturday (maybe sunday) afternoon starting at ,say 3 o'clock.
Every team plays each other once. 30 minute match (no dustbowl/gravelpit etc coz we dont want draws). 20 minute turnaround between matches. Get everyone to arrive at 2.30 to find out what time their game's are on.
The schedule could look something like this:
3.00 team1vteam2 3.50 team3vteam4 4.40 team2vteam4 5.30 team3vteam2 6.20 team3vteam1 7.10 team4vteam1 (ie. every team has to play 2 matches in a row at some point)
at the end the 2 top teams play each other in the final.
If the server limit was increased to 32 then we could have spectators. They could double as reserves for teams that have missing players (although once they play for one team they cannot play for another).
All this adds up to around a 5 hour session for the admins so I guess we'd need at least 2 so they can rotate. I know its a bit of a time commitment but like I say, I'd be happy to help in any way I can.
Reckon its doable?

Sounds like a great idea, and it would be a load of fun, but i think that getting 24 people+admins organised for an entire afternoon on till the evening would be very difficult. You would want the people that have signed up to pretty much guarantee that they will be there and free for the whole day.

Spectating isnt a problem as we can jsut enable source tv which allows upto 128 people to spec and has a delay so thety cant realy info over ts, and depending on the time the match server may be avaliable early afternoon so we should be able to have, 2 matches gonig at once and possible finish it in one day.
So teams wise mayby the comp team another team of clanners and 2 reg teams, or the comp team and 3 reg teams,i dont know, i will look into it though.
Reliablitly of the palyers is the biggest problem so a weekend would definatly be the best time as most people are off on sat or sun.
Possibly spread it over a few weeks like a proper league, and have 2 maps eahc match.
Like i said ill look into it and see what we can do
Ares'/Chris' concerns are quite valid as that'd mean getting 24 players + reserves organised, so staggered matches over the weekend, or a couple of weekends might be best.
If someone is prepared to organise it, I'm prepared to play
I've been think about other fun ways to play using different play styles on exisiting maps but it's challenging!
I'd be prepared to consider helping with this, but i'm still pretty fresh into my new job and am spending a lot of time with my head in that 'work space' atm. However, if I can find spare time to organise then i'd be game to help

This sounds like a great idea and definitely something I want to be a part of
However, I would suggest that after the captains are picked (possibly by general vote instead of admins?), their team members are assigned randomly. In my experience, if you let people pick their own teams you end up with one or two teams with really good players who know eachother well, and were quick on the ball, and the other captains end up with the rest, which makes the matches kinda one sided and definitely not fun. Also, the internet isn't a great forum for a 'numbers' system or suchlike, and a semi-random-semi-chosen system tends to fall apart and result in drama. When the teams are fully random, you seem to get a nice balance of skill, as well as adding the element of teambuiding where success is greatly assisted by quickly getting to know your teammates' strengths and weaknesses, learning to compliment them with you own under the unification of the captain, and hopefully fostering some new inter-reg friendships ^_^
If this is gonna go on the whole day (assuming it goes on at all) I probably won't take part as I have my GCSE exams in a couple of weeks. I haven't even started revising
Aye but if they arent random, we could end up with someone who doesent careless about their team, this way would mean people would pick those they think can fill a needed slot on the team, and those who they think are reliable.
I don't agree with you there. Sometimes, people just want to play something different: Playing the same class for a long time can be pretty boring, especially if it's something like Engineer. And don't forget that the reason we are doing these nights is for fun.
Hi Tibz, you make a fair point, because these games are meant to be fun, but you're missing an important point, these organised games are played under match conditions, and in a proper match, it's not really good form to switch classes, once you're set, you're set. I think I'm right in saying that this game was both yours and StNicks first regs v Clan, so it's fair if you weren't aware of this.
The other thing I'd say is during the first match, I was also down to play scout, but I actually gave that up to allow 2 other players to have a go at it, resulting in me playing soldier and sniper. This was done through agreement, and respectfully, both Kill4Dog, the other player and I discussed it first, which is how it should be done. At the beginning of 2Fort however, a game where I was rightfully expecting to play the class I was down to play, I was 'told' by another player that they were playing that class. Not good form at all, and not good teamwork.
If you want to swap and change class then fine, do it on the regular servers, but when the team have spent most of the week trying to organise who's playing what, don't be surprised if there's a reaction to someone 'deciding' they are going to play a class that someone else expected to play, it's just disrespectful.
I'm not going to say any more on this subject, but I will finish with if a player is going to get involved in an organised team match, then they should familiarise themselves with what's happening beforehand from the Forum.

Re: CLANNER Vs REGS 9 Vs 9 Highlander 27/04/08
I'd definitely be up for helping out with a HH inter-league. I think it would be great if we could have a league set up over several weeks, so we can get chatting about it between matches. I think a league in an afternoon may be a little too much.
Maybe, if this idea took off is... to have random teams play a few games in an afternoon/evening every week - these teams would chance from week to week randomly. This way any players can sign up and win points for a team win. The league table would be a league of players, rather than teams and solve the problem of a player not caring if a team won or not.
Of course a player league really defeats the team in TEAM fortress 2, but I can't think of a way to have a scoreboard of randomly changing teams. Also, this may just be a manual way of achieving what we alredy have with HLStatsX. I'm just chucking ideas around here...
