[MAFIA] Rules & Guidelines
(This post is going up early to give everyone time to read through it and digest. I won't be using the external Hampshireville forums for this event anymore.)
I'll assume you've all read the introductory page, so I'll get right into the general rules and guidelines. Some things have changed, so please read carefully!
Fundamentals
Do your best to help your team win. No double/triple-crossing, or revealing yourself to be Mafia.
Be courteous to other players. It is fine to accuse them of lying, being untrustworthy, scummy, or to call someone out on poor logic, as the game relies on finger-pointing and confrontation to work. Personal attacks and grudges, however, should be kept off the forum.
No private discussion between participants about HH Mafia, full stop. The only place you may discuss the game is on this public forum, unless your role allows otherwise. If someone approaches you to talk about the game, let me know.
No discussion about the game here on the forums during the Night. The thread will be closed until the new Day dawns, and the murder victim is revealed.
No discussion about the game between Mafia scum anywhere during the Day. Your 72 hour Nights are all you have to conspire together.
Don't use hidden text, small text or advanced codes or cryptography.
You may not quote or pretend to quote any PM sent to you by a moderator to 'prove' your role.
Do not edit your posts. If you want to make a correction, quote the post and state what you would change.
Communication to the Moderator should be in bold text, if on the forum. Contact the Moderator privately if the issue involves your role.
This is my colour, please don't use it.
Voting & Death
To vote to lynch a player, post VOTE SAM in bold text. To unvote, post UNVOTE. To change your vote, type UNVOTE, VOTE HAM. If your vote is not bold it will not be counted.
Once the Townies have a majority vote (50% +1) on a player, that player is lynched and the Day ends. Unvoting or vote-changing after that point will be ignored. Be careful with your votes - you don't want an innocent Townie killed by the Mafia piling in to bring a vote up to the majority line!
The Town may choose to VOTE NO LYNCH; only 50% of the vote is required for this to go through, as opposed to a majority.
Day phases last as long as it takes until a majority vote is reached. However, if a Day drags on too long I will set a deadline.
Night phases last (at most) 72 hours from the moment the Moderator posts the result of the lynch. If the Mafia do not come to a decision as to who to kill by this time, no murder will take place. The Doctor and Sheriff must also send the name of their target to the Moderator during this time.
When you are dead, you may no longer discuss the game on our forums or to currently active players. Stand back and watch till the game is over.
Activity
If you've signed up for this game, you really need to make a commitment to be online and involved at least every other day. Try to make a post every 24 hours. A lack of posts will slow down the game and make you look like Mafia scum.
Things come up in life. If you will not be online for 48 hours, post in the thread in bold text to let me know.
If you think a player is being inactive, post in the thread in bold text PROD JAM. I will then prod the player to see if they're present, if I think it's necessary.
If I prod you, you will risk being replaced or removed if you do not respond in 48 hours.
Some advice: be paranoid, be suspicious, look through other people's posts and voting patterns for clues and try and connect the dots. Post as much content and analysis as you can so we have stuff to argue over. If someone's lurking or posting uncontroversial garbage it means they don't want to be noticed - burn them at the stake!
Also, get an avatar so we can pick out who posted what more easily.

Re: [MAFIA] Rules & Guidelines
Special Roles
Three players will be assigned special roles. Their roles will not be revealed publicly by the Moderator, and any player can claim to be them. Their abilities and goals are outlined below.
Medic - this player is aligned with the Town. They are able to protect one player from death during the Night. They must submit their target to the Moderator during the Night phase.
Sheriff - this player is aligned with the Town. They are able to investigate one player during the Night. They must submit their target to the Moderator during the Night phase. At the end of the Night, their target's alignment is revealed to them privately.
Serial Killer - this player is insane and aligned only with themselves. They are able to kill one player during the Night. They must submit their target to the Moderator during the Night phase. The Killer wins when they are the last player left alive.
If a player with a special role fails to contact the Moderator with their target during the Night phase, no action will be taken. They may also decide to submit No Target, which is useful in the case of a Killer who doesn't want to leave the main factions too uneven.
