It was great fun. Thanks for the match lads. I thought we did a great job on GP to keep B. It was much down to a good set up with 2 medic 2 soliders 1 eng 1 pyro and a nub on a mission. Nub the SG and octal made the blues uber early and if there did get past I was sitting in the hut as pyro with wooj or Jman (playing Medics) and a uber. I thought it worked well. How did it look from the blues side ? Plus when we played Blues we was running out of time to get the last C cap. Me Octal and wooj I think had just come out of spawn. We made a fast plan. Octal got the the uber up for wooj. Then octal went left and to distrat the reds I went right thought the tunnel with the medic. We got the point and it worked well. |

Didnt have chance to set up the team as there were only 6 of us in irc pre-practice, but it was good to get everyone playing together. My main point was to figure out how easy to defend gravelpit cap A would be. With an engineer its not too bad until the sentry goes down, then its almost impossible to get back up. You really do need an engineer though for the teleporter. Cap B is closer to the spawn and allows more leeway for class selection, but it also has many avenues of attack leading to it, so is inherently harder to defend. Im not convinced by the pyro on the whole in clan games. Okay in some situations he can be a lifesaver, but this usually only happens with an uber charge and a medic up his arse. this usually leaves the medic open to getting pslattered when the uber wears off and not behind the defensive lines healing people where he needs to be. Cap B gravelpit is probably the most pyro friendly as there are a couple of ways to charge in and out, but on cap C I cant see a pyro doing much? We've found that you need 2 medics, a demo, a second demo/scout and 2 soldiers (rocket jumping allows them to keep up, medic heals them as they go). The final slot is usually filled by a heavy or sniper, but could conceivably be swapped for a pyro if they would be more use than the hw/sniper on that particular map/round/cap. Dropping any of the core 6 classes would slow down our attack too much - its the speed of our attack that seems to be winning us matches Cheers for turning up yesterday guys, a much better turn out than previously. It would make practices much more productive though if we could allocate teams and roles on maps before practice in irc though. Steps in a positive direction anyway, thanks to all who turned up and sorry for having to dash off a little early. |

Cheers for letting me stick around and join in last night. I know that I don't have any kind of match experience, so the way that a 'match environment' works versus a public one was something of a culture shock - hope I wasn't too much of a liability - particularly because I was resolutely not playing my favoured class (pyro) given y'all don't use him in matches. From my perspective, you're absolutely right that setting the teams pre-practice, and having a walk through of the map before the game are good plans. Beating the tendency to rush in instead of bunch up and go out of some of us (myself included...) is a must It was interesting to try the tactic of all defending A instead of the more usual B on GP. Anyhoo - If you need an extra body and I'm online, feel free to draft me for target practice. I had fun, and doing more 'teamwork' related play really appeals to me. |

Yeah, basically what the Sergeant said. It was great fun and I enjoyed playing with a lot more teamwork going on. It's great playing Demoman and always having a good team to back you up when you are in trouble. I hope I provided at least a bit of a challenge against the more experienced clan players and you can always count me in if you need another player. About defending A, the tactic that worked best so for me was building a Sentry of the roof on one of the huts, thus preventing the Offence from going straight through the A tunnels. However, this only really works if you are going to A straight away, as you usually don't have enough time to build your Sentry after the setup has finished. |
