So I want to adress that the taunt crits on Heavy have basically become useless. Why you ask? Well...
Crits triple the damage of weapons without any damage fall-off. So let's take a look at the Heavy. He receives 2 seconds of crits as reward for taunting. It takes 0.87 seconds to fully rev up a minigun, 0.79 with Tomislav. So that's almost a second lost because of revving up.
Ever since the Love and War update, Valve introduced a nerf that applies to every minigun. The minigun receives full accuracy after 1 second of revving up and receives full damage after 1 second of firing.
So yeah, Heavy gets 50% less damage before max ramp up has been received. Which makes it that the crits will only do 50% extra damage compared the total base damage the minigun normally has.
To sum it up... 0.87 seconds to rev up, 1 second of only 50% extra damage, every bullet won't hit because of the accuracy ramp up. So only 0.13 seconds remain to fully utilize the crits, which stands for only 2 bullets. This isn't worth the taunt crits.

Heavy is mostly dependent on a Medic, taunt crits mostly takes that away. Shotgun isn't that good of an option for Heavy to begin with, because it's outclassed by the Sandvich in almost every situation. As for the amp suggestion, being a stationary Heavy rarely pays off.

Luckily, you don't have to stay by an amp all the time. You can move with the team, if there is one, and play dynamically. Regardless, there are very, very few Bosses that a heavy can outrun anyway.
FF2 is not dependent on taunt crits and neither is the heavy.
Hey , i got a new idea: What about Mini-Crits instead of crits? The time could be a bit extended for the trade-off of dmg.
And i also got a question: How does AMP work? Every time i build one or be near one i don't get crits as any class. Well, not long enough to focus on the boss and shoot once but it is quite shorter than 1 second. This is also a (bug?) with demoman. he is able to throw crit stickies without getting the crit from the AMP. No glow but crit sticky.
