I am sure this has been suggested before, but this is a petition to ask for the High Five taunt to give crits upon release, as per usual with other taunts. I am not sure if this was removed for balancing issues or whether it was never implemented in the first place, but I believe it would help improve the gameplay a little bit more (more so for heavies than anything else )
This can double up as a thread for discussing the ups and downs of this feature being implemented. What are the community's thoughts?
Taunt crits are based on a trade-off where you are rewarded with a few seconds of crits after you have made yourself vulnerable for a few seconds by taunting, with the timing of this is often an important factor.
Taunt crits were deliberately disabled for the Hi-5 for 3 reasons. Primarily because there isn't a trade-off, there isn't a moment where you are out of control and vulnerable. Secondly, timing is not longer a factor. Players stand around in the Hi-5 pose indefinitely and then break out of the stance at any given moment to get crits exactly in the moment they need them. Thirdly, Players standing around in the Hi-5 stance, waiting, aren't helping the cause and often complain and are rude when other players respond to the Hi-5, when all they were interested in was getting the crits.
Taunt crits for Hi-5 was last discussed in the following thread - viewtopic.php?p=156853
Still unable to see a good reason to enabled them.
TLDR, No taunt-crits for Hi-5. a) No risk involved. b) Causes unnecessary belligerent/rude behaviour between players.
There is this initial time period in which you are rendered immobile by the taunt, so if you want the crits immediately you are still rendered vulnerable. The risk that somebody will respond to your high five and innabilitate you further is also there.
The rudeness claim is valid and one I hadn't given that much importance in the past, since my worst reaction to them was to hit them with a melee weapon while shouting pootis.
I don't share your opinion but I understand, thanks for finding some time to answer my query.
